Isn’t it funny when things just click into place #
It’s National Fitness Day, and I found that out the hard way, mid gym session, surrounded by superheroes. I went back to the gym the other morning. First time in months. The doctor, Sarah, and even the dog had all been telling me to get fit for ages, so I thought it was about time.
Got up early, rifled through the Tupperware box for any old water bottle I could find, and headed off.
What National Fitness Day looked like at our gym #
When I got there, the receptionist was dressed as Wonder Woman. I said, “Have I missed something?” She said, “It’s National Fitness Day.”
The Incredible Hulk said good morning to me while he was mopping the floor. Iron Man was giving someone a PT session. Even the pool guy was dressed as Aquaman, trident and all, which I thought was very well done.
I looked down at my water bottle. It had KAPOW written all over it. I hadn’t used it since last year’s Entrepreneurs Circle convention, which, as it turned out, had run with exactly the same superhero theme. Some things come back round when you least expect them.
“Get Pumped for National Fitness Day.” Cash back on pond pumps, filters and U.V.s bought online. I know, cheesy.
From idea to advert in fifteen minutes #
On the way home I was having a proper conversation with myself, and with Claude, about whether to run it as a campaign. I didn’t have time to do videos, or so I told myself. But I don’t need a lot of encouragement to get in front of a camera, especially when I can have a bit of a laugh with it. By the time I got home I’d worked out the script, recorded it and edited it, all in about fifteen minutes.
Then I chucked my gym bag on the bed, and out rolled my watch.
The one Sarah bought me for my birthday. The one I thought I’d lost on holiday in Cornwall, and hadn’t quite plucked up the courage to tell her about yet.
Separately, just a few small, happy coincidences. But one seemed to lead to the next, and it was a good enough start before nine in the morning.
As a business owner, you’re always on the lookout for the next problem or obstacle. It’s quite a stressful way to be, if I’m honest. But that morning showed me something worth holding onto, that if I look for and appreciate the good things when they happen, it can completely alter the outlook for the rest of the day.
I hate to admit it, but the gym turned out to be good for me in more ways than one.
