Originating from the Rio Xingu, the Bel Monte pleco L333 is a medium sized pleco suitable for to medium to large aquaria. They are often confused with King Tiger plecos, but the one latter tends to have more of a white body with black markings, whilst the Bel Monte has a golden body colour. The aquarium should be furnished with a soft substrate, such as sand and smooth rocks with bog wood and caves for the pleco to take refuge in. If more than one pleco of this species are to be kept together, please make sure that adequate space is available to everyone and that there are more caves than there are plecos. The water should be soft and acidic, with a moderate flow and good oxygen levels.

The Bel Monte is a peaceful fish who doesn’t concern himself with other fish in his tank, but may become territorial with its own kind or similar looking fish. If tank mates are added, food consumption must be observed to make sure that the pleco is getting its share as it may be much slower to react than many tropical fish. Ideal Tankmates include Tetra, Angelfish, Cories and Apistogrammas among others.

They are an omnivorous species and should be fed Pleco wafers, Sinking Wafers, bloodworm, mysis, krill, brine shrimp  as well as a good proportion of vegetable matter such as blanched spinach, kale, courgette or cucumber
