Electric Blue Rams are a man made variation of Rams. They are a small, peaceful species but very sensitive so they're more suited for established tanks and experienced aquarists.
In the aquarium, the Electric Blue Ram needs soft, acidic water and lots of bog wood, rocks, plants and caves to thrive. All of these will provide your ram with hiding places and little territories that's essential to their natural behaviour and sense of security. Peat filtration, almond leaves and floating plants can help create the desirable environment. Filtration should be efficient to keep water quality stable, but flow needs to be gentle. Frequent partial water changes are essential as this species does not tolerate elevated nitrate levels at all.
Rams can be kept in a community as long as there aren't any larger aggressive fish that may bully or frighten the rams. It's best not to mix them with other dwarf cichlids to avoid potential territorial disputes. Ideal tank mates include, Tetras, Cories, smaller suckermouth catfish, rasboras, pencilfish, hatchetfish and smaller loaches like kuhli.
Food should be offered in the form of sinking pellets, as well as fresh and frozen insect larvae like blood worm and brine shrimp.
