Apistogramma Pandourini are a dwarf cichlid from South America. They are a really beautiful little fish that's fairly peaceful in temperament and perfect for a South American community. The aquarium should be at least 60L in size with soft acidic water and dark substrate. This will help your little Pandourini feel safe and right at home, so they will spend more time out in the open. Plants are recommended as these fish will use them as hiding places as well as territory markers. Caves and flower pots are often used in Apistogramma tanks and will offer great spawning sites for breeding pairs. Floating plants will help diffuse lighting, which will make your Apistos feel safe.
The aquarium must be mature before adding the Apistogrammas as they are very sensitive to poor water quality, particularly high nitrates. Good filtration and frequent partial water changes are essential to their wellbeing, but the water movement needs to be quite gentle.
Ideal tank mates will include smaller tetras, corydoras, smaller loaches and various suckermouth catfish like bristlenose. Apistogrammas, like all Cichlids can be quite territorial with their own kind, especially when they're trying to breed, so if more than one is being housed in the aquarium, there needs to be enough space for everyone to have their individual territories. We recommend housing one male with several females.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets as well as fresh and frozen fish foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and mysis.
