Non Return Valves
A Check Valve or Non Return Valves is an essential accessory for all air and CO2 equipment. It allows air and liquid to flow only in one direction and automatically closes if the flow is to be reversed. Sold in a pack of 2.
Air and Co2 equipment that is sited at a lower level than the surface of the water in your aquarium runs a strong risk of accidents if a check valve is not installed. The air is blown from the pump into the tank via the air line. However, if the power to the pump were to be disrupted for any reason (power cut, accidentally being switched off etc) or the pump were to cease functioning, the flow will be automatically reversed and water will begin to back syphon from the aquarium through the air line. If left unattended for long enough, the entire aquarium could potentially be emptied onto the floor as the water will continue to syphon until the level reaches below the air stone. A simple and inexpensive check valve prevents this from happening as it will only allow flow into one direction and never the other.
