Black Neon Tetra are a species that is largely overlooked by most hobbyists because of their monochrome appearance. They are a peaceful shoaling species and need to be maintained in a group of 6 or more individuals. In the wild they are found largely in black water habitats, but specimens found in shops are usually tank bred and will adjust to a wider range of conditions as long as extremes are avoided.
Ideal tank mates would be similarly peaceful South American species such as Angelfish, Apistogrammas, Rams, Cories, other Tetras and Plecos, but they'll get along with most community fish. Large cichlids and similar species should be avoided as they may view the Black Neons as food.
Food can be offered in the form of flakes, micro pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods such as brine shrimp and daphnia.
