Vitalis Cichlid Carnivore Pellets are designed specifically for carnivorous and protein-hungry cichlids from Africa, Central America and South America. Made using high quality fish meal, crustaceans and molluscs, these soft sinking pellets provide a highly digestible source of nutrition that encourages healthy growth, condition and colouration.

Unlike many hard pellet foods, Vitalis pellets soften quickly in water and sink slowly through the water column, creating a more natural feeding experience for cichlids. This makes them particularly suitable for species that prefer to feed throughout the middle and lower levels of the aquarium rather than exclusively from the surface.

These pellets are an excellent staple food for Oscars, Jack Dempseys, Firemouths, Convicts, Acara, Geophagus, Severums and many other carnivorous or omnivorous cichlid species.

4mm pellets are tailored to meet the high protein needs of larger carnivorous cichlid species from Africa and Central or South America. Are Vitalis Cichlid Carnivore Pellets better than flake food?

Absolutely. Significantly higher in protein and other key nutrients, pellets in general are recommended as a staple food for fish. Flakes have a tendency to disintegrate in water quite easily and so the amount of food your fish gets is actually quite a lot less than you think. Pellets will remain intact when the fish eats them and so all of the food will be ingested, rather than going to waste.

Are these carnivore pellets suitable for African Cichlids?

Some yes and some no. There are a large number of African species, such as certain Mbunas and some other Malawis that are actually vegetarian and they will not be able to digest this food properly. Best to read up on the species you keep before deciding what to feed.

How often should I feed this food?

Ideally you should feed this food daily as part of a healthy balanced diet.

Do these pellets sink or float?

This is a slow sinking pellet designed to cater to the different feeding habits of many different species of fish.

Do Cichlids need a lot of protein?

Many larger cichlids naturally feed on insects, crustaceans, small fish and other animal matter. Quality protein is essential for healthy growth, muscle development and breeding condition. However, even carnivorous cichlids benefit from some vegetable matter as part of a balanced diet.
