Frozen Day Old Chicks provide a convenient whole-prey food for suitable reptiles and other exotic animals. They can be fed as part of a varied diet or used to introduce a different prey type for animals normally fed mice or rats.

Day-old chicks provide the entire prey animal, including muscle, bone and internal organs, and are particularly useful for reptile species naturally adapted to eating birds and other whole prey.

Feeding Day Old Chicks

Always choose prey of an appropriate size for the animal being fed and defrost thoroughly before offering. Frozen prey should never be fed while still frozen.

Day-old chicks can provide useful dietary variety for suitable snakes and other carnivorous reptiles, but whether they should be used as an occasional food or more regularly depends on the nutritional requirements of the individual species.

The beak and feet are normal parts of the whole prey item, but the chick must be appropriately sized for the animal consuming it.

Useful for Fussy Feeders

Chicks have a different scent from conventional feeder rodents and can sometimes be useful when dealing with reluctant feeders.

They can also be used for scenting another prey item, allowing the smell of chick to be transferred to the animal’s usual food before it is offered.
