HabiStat Heat Mat 17 x 11″ – 20W

The HabiStat Heat Mat 17 x 11″ provides gentle, localised warmth for suitable reptile, amphibian and invertebrate enclosures. Using carbon cloth heating technology, it produces an even source of contact and radiant warmth while using relatively little electricity.

Heat mats are particularly useful for species requiring gentle background or supplementary heating, and are a popular choice for spiders, scorpions and other invertebrates.

This 17 x 11″ model has a 20W output.

Gentle, Localised Heat

Unlike a powerful basking lamp or ceramic heater, a heat mat isn’t designed to significantly increase the air temperature throughout an enclosure.

Instead, it provides a localised area of gentle warmth, allowing it to be incorporated into an appropriate temperature gradient.

For reptiles with higher basking-temperature requirements, a heat mat will generally not be suitable as the sole heat source. The heating system should always be chosen according to the requirements of the species being kept.

Always Use with a Thermostat

Every heat mat should be controlled by a suitable thermostat.

A thermostat regulates the heat source according to the temperature within the enclosure, helping prevent temperatures from becoming excessively high.

The HabiStat Heat Mat can be paired with a suitable Mat Stat or Temperature Thermostat, with the thermostat probe positioned according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

This is particularly important because reptiles and other exotic animals can remain in contact with a warm surface for prolonged periods.

Suitable for Invertebrates

The gentle heat produced by a heat mat makes it particularly useful for many invertebrate enclosures, including suitable spiders and scorpions.

It can also be used with reptiles and other exotic animals where a low-level or supplementary heat source is appropriate.

Always research the individual species before choosing a heat source, as heating requirements vary considerably.

Installation

The HabiStat Heat Mat is designed for straightforward installation and can be used in different positions depending on the type of enclosure and species being kept.

Always follow HabiStat’s installation instructions and ensure the mat is positioned so that an appropriate temperature gradient can be maintained.

Never operate the heat mat without a thermostat.
