The Whiptail catfish is a medium sized peaceful species from South America. They are an excellent addition to peaceful communities as they don't tend to concern themselves with their tank mates and cause no trouble. Largely inactive by nature, they are best kept in groups and only tend to be territorial during spawning season.
The aquarium should be relatively spacious with soft sand substrate. The addition of plants, rocks, caves and bog wood will be very much appreciated as it will provide hiding places and stimulation for the whiptail. Water should be just on the acidic side and leaning towards the cooler side of tropical. These fish don't do well at higher temperatures and can be quite sensitive to water quality issues.
This is one of the most peaceful catfish around and can be housed with almost anything but the most aggressive species. We recommend staying within the South American range with Apistogrammas, Tetras, Corydoras and Angelfish.
Food can be offered in the form of sinking wafers with plenty of vegetarian ingredients for a balanced diet.
