The Sultan Pleco L264 is a medium sized sucker mouth catfish from Brazil where it inhabits predominantly the rocky rapid waters in the River Tapajos. This fish needs a spacious, established aquarium with soft, acidic water. Dark substrate is preferred and the aquarium should be furnished with rocks, caves and bog wood for enrichment and hiding. The current should be fairly strong and well oxygenated as they don't do well in calmer waters. An additional powerhead may be installed to facilitate the additional flow.
This is a peaceful species, though they can become territorial with their own kind or similar species. This can be countered by providing plenty of caves and other hiding spots and creating visual barriers. Ideal tank mates include Tetras, Corydoras, Dwarf Cichlids and any other fish that can tolerate the current and the pH.
They are an omnivorous species and should be fed Pleco wafers, Sinking Wafers, bloodworm, mysis, krill, brine shrimp as well as a good proportion of vegetable matter such as blanched spinach, kale, courgette or cucumber
