Stendker GoodHeart Discus Food Regular 500g is the classic beefheart-based frozen food developed specifically for discus by the renowned Stendker discus hatchery. The recipe has been used and refined by Stendker since 1965 and is formulated as a complete food for discus rather than simply an occasional frozen treat.

Based predominantly on meat and animal ingredients, GoodHeart provides the protein required to support the growth and condition of discus while also incorporating fish, vegetables, cereals, minerals and other carefully selected ingredients.

One of the most important characteristics of GoodHeart is its consistency. Stendker developed the food to remain well bound in the aquarium rather than rapidly breaking apart. This allows the fish to consume more of the food while reducing the amount of fine waste entering the water and filtration system.

Stendker GoodHeart Discus Food

Stendker GoodHeart Discus Food has been used for generations of Stendker discus and remains their classic frozen discus diet. It contains 91% meat and animal by-products, together with oils and fats, fish and fish by-products, cereals, vegetables, vegetable by-products and minerals.

The manufacturer lists an analytical composition of 13.2% crude protein, 1.5% crude oils and fats, less than 0.5% crude fibre and 83.7% moisture.

Developed Specifically for Discus

Discus require a nutritious diet capable of supporting their growth while maintaining good body condition. GoodHeart was developed around those requirements and has been proven as a complete discus food for decades.

Although beefheart forms the basis of the recipe, GoodHeart isn’t simply frozen beefheart. The additional ingredients create a formulated diet intended specifically for discus, distinguishing it from straightforward frozen beefheart products used as supplementary foods.

This Regular/Classic version is the standard GoodHeart recipe. Stendker also produces Colour and Spirulina versions for keepers wanting those alternative formulations.

Firm, Clean-Feeding Consistency

Frozen foods that rapidly disintegrate can leave fine particles suspended throughout the aquarium, particularly when feeding groups of large fish.

Stendker therefore paid particular attention to the binding of GoodHeart. Its firm consistency helps keep the food together while the discus feed, allowing more to be eaten rather than disappearing into the substrate or filtration system.

That’s particularly useful in warm discus aquariums, where maintaining excellent water quality is an important part of successful long-term husbandry.

Economical 500g Flat Pack

The 500g frozen flat pack is ideal for established discus keepers, larger groups of fish or anyone feeding GoodHeart regularly. Stendker also produces the Classic recipe in smaller 100g blister packs, while the 500g format provides a more economical option for frequent feeding.

Feeding Stendker GoodHeart

Stendker recommends completely defrosting GoodHeart in the refrigerator before feeding. Ideally, place the required quantity in a covered container in the fridge the evening before it is needed.

Avoid thawing the food at room temperature or under running water, as this can affect its intended consistency and wash away useful nutrients.

As a guide, Stendker recommends 5–7.5g per meal for a group of 10 discus, up to three meals per day. Only feed what the fish can consume and remove significant leftovers after feeding.
