The Kamfa Flowerhorn Cichlid is a manmade strain bred from South American cichlids. Best known for its vivid colouration and sizeable nuchal hump, It is a very large fish that's somewhat ill tempered.
The aquarium should be large as these fish grow to a large size and the water should be soft and acidic. The tank should be furnished with rock, wood and sand or very fine gravel to facilitate their strong urge to dig. The decor should be fixed down properly as they're strong enough to redecorate their own environment. Plants are better off kept plastic or silk as these fish will most definitely destroy them. A heater guard is also highly recommended to protect the heater from getting smashed against the glass.
The Flowerhorn Cichlid is a very messy fish with a high protein diet, so it is important that filtration can handle the biological load produced by this one fish. Very frequent partial water changes are also common practice in flowerhorn keeping to help keep nitrates, phosphates and high concentrations of harmful bacteria at bay.
This fish is very interactive with its owner, but doesn't play well with other fish. For that reason, most flowerhorn keepers have them as a single fish and treated as a pet. If tank mates are to be introduced, they must be other large South and Central American Cichlids with similar temperaments.
