Seachem Purigen Filtration Media

Seachem Purigen is a premium synthetic polymer that is unlike any other filtration product. It is not a mixture of ion exchangers or absorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at a rate and capacity that exceeds all competing products by over 500%. Purigen controls ammonia, nitrites and nitrates by removing nitrogenous organic waste that otherwise would release these harmful compounds. Purigen's impact on trace elements is minimal. It significantly raises redox. It polishes water to unparalleled clarity. Purigen darkens progressively as it exhausts and is easily renewed by treating with bleach. Purigen is designed for both freshwater and marine aquaria.

Purigen will help beneficial bacteria cope with spikes in bioload, especially at feeding times and in aquariums with particularly dirty fish such as discus, goldfish, large cichlids and predators.

For best result, Purigen should be rinsed first and then placed in the filter so as to maximise the flow of water through it. The porous media has maximum effect where the flow of the water is at its greatest.

Purigen will gradually turn a dark brown (which indicates it is full of waste) as it works in your tank but this does not mean it is finished! All you need to do is soak it in unscented bleach. Then you treat it in a mixture of water and Seachem Prime for complete rejuvenation. As a result, purigen can be used over and over rather than purchasing new batch every couple of weeks.
