The Penguin Tetra is a charming shoaling species that's often overlooked because of the monochrome colouring. They're a great addition to aquariums that have very colourful centerpiece fish like discus and gourami. It is a peaceful fish that can adapt to a very wide range of conditions and doesn't demand much. The aquarium should be minimum 60L and preferably planted. Open swimming space should be available for the fish to enjoy. Ideally they should be kept in a shoal of 6 or more specimens
Tank mates can be anything that doesn't grow large enough to eat the Penguins, such as Angelfish, Cories, smaller cichlids, loaches and a whole host of other fish. Long finned fish should be avoided as the Penguins are known to be a little nippy.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets or fresh and frozen fish foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia and bloodworm.
