Opaline Gourami are a captive bred colour variant of the blue gourami and a regular favourite among aquarists. They are often added as the feature fish in medium aquaria and kept with smaller shoaling fish. They can be somewhat aggressive, but this can be countered easily. Males are competitive with one another and this can be seen in the marbling on their bodies. The marbling becomes more intense with the level of power a fish has within the aquarium. Offering these fish an aquarium of 1m or longer allows more than one to be kept at a time. If males and females are to be kept together, the females should outnumber the males three to one so that the male doesn't focus all of his attention on a single female. They can be mixed with the gold and platinum version of this fish as they are all essentially just colour variants of the same fish. Provide plenty of plants to break the line of sight and offer hiding places.

Tank mates can be many species as this fish can adapt to such a wide range of conditions. Since they have relatively small mouths, there's little danger of smaller fish like tetra being eaten.

Food can be offered in the form of pellets, flakes and fresh or frozen fish foods such as bloodworm, brine shrimp and mysis shrimp.
