The Blue Phantom Pleco is a stunning suckermouth from South America. This is a fairly peaceful species that's best suited to larger, mature aquariums.
The Aquarium
The aquarium should be well furnished with wood, smooth rocks and plants. The addition of caves and shady areas will help the pleco feel more at ease. This is essential if more than one Blue Phantom is to be kept in the same tank as they have a tendency to be quite territorial, so hiding places and other objects to break the line of sight will be necessary. Filtration should be efficient as this fish can be sensitive to poor water quality. Flow needs to be quite strong and well oxygenated.
Behaviour
Like most plecos, the Blue Phantom doesn't really concern itself with tank mates that aren't the same species or something similar. We recommend keeping them with other South American species as they're more likely to require similar water parameters.
Feeding
Food can be offered in the form of pleco wafers, catfish wafers, cucumber or courgette and fresh or frozen fish foods such as mysis and brine shrimp. It is important to remember that this is an omnivorous species and should not be expected to survive exclusively on algae found in the aquarium
Please note that the image is for illustration purposes and the fish you will receive may not be identical. These fish are still juveniles and have yet to colour up. A healthy environment and good quality food will help bring them into full colour. If you have any questions about keeping this L128 Pleco, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff.
