The Gold Molly is a man made variation of standard mollies. Substantially rounder in shape, they have become one of the more popular variations of Molly in recent years. The only real difference in needs is that they require much more gentle flow as they are not as prolific at swimming. Everything else is exactly the same as any other molly. The aquarium needs to be spacious as these fish get to a noteworthy size and the water must be hard and alkaline. Most Mollies enjoy having a little bit of salt in their aquariums.
Mollies need to be kept in a shoal with females outnumbering the males by at least 3-1. Much like all other livebearers, they are prolific breeders and give birth to live young. The males spend pretty much their entire lives wanting to breed and for this reason, all livebearers have the potential to overrun their aquarium.
Tank mates can include other livebearers, Glass Catfish, Rainbowfish as well as other fish that appreciate the alkaline conditions required for this species.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets, as well as fresh or frozen fish foods like daphnia, bloodworm and brine shrimp
