Description
Gamma Frozen Whole Fish 250g
Gamma Frozen Whole Fish 250g contains whole Hypomesus species, providing a substantial natural food for larger marine fish, cichlids and predatory species that readily take whole prey.
Rather than being chopped or processed into small portions, the fish remain whole, making this an excellent choice for larger carnivorous fish where small frozen foods such as brine shrimp, mysis or bloodworm simply don’t provide a substantial enough meal.
Frozen Whole Fish for Predatory Fish
Whole fish provide a different feeding experience from chopped seafood and smaller frozen foods. Their size, shape and natural appearance can encourage the instinctive feeding response of predatory species accustomed to taking fish and other larger prey.
They are particularly useful for larger specimens that can comfortably swallow an appropriately sized whole fish.
Which Fish Can Eat Whole Frozen Fish?
Gamma Whole Fish is particularly suited to suitably sized carnivorous and predatory fish, including:
- Lionfish
- Groupers
- Marine eels
- Triggerfish
- Larger wrasses
- Larger predatory cichlids
- Other suitably sized carnivorous marine and freshwater fish
Always ensure the individual fish offered is appropriately sized for the animal being fed.
Why Feed Whole Fish?
Whole prey provides variation in both diet and feeding behaviour.
For predatory species, rotating whole fish with foods such as prawn, mussel, cockle and krill provides a much more varied menu than relying continuously on a single frozen food.
The whole format also makes portioning straightforward when feeding larger predators — simply remove the number of fish required rather than estimating a portion from finely chopped food.
A Useful Food for Larger Predators
Tiny frozen foods are excellent for smaller aquarium fish, but feeding enough brine shrimp or mysis to satisfy a sizeable predator can quickly become impractical.
Whole fish provide a considerably more substantial mouthful and are therefore particularly useful for larger specimens with correspondingly larger appetites.
They can also be alternated with Gamma Whole Mussel, Whole Cockle, Chopped Prawn and Krill Superba to provide greater dietary variety.
Gamma Irradiated Frozen Fish Food
Gamma frozen foods are rapidly packed, sealed and frozen before undergoing gamma irradiation as part of TMC’s food-safety process.
The 250g Gamma Slice format provides a generous quantity for fishkeepers who regularly feed larger predatory species.
How to Feed Gamma Whole Fish
Remove only the number of fish required and defrost thoroughly before feeding.
Offer an appropriate quantity according to the size and number of animals being fed. Avoid feeding prey items that are excessively large for the fish to swallow comfortably.
Remove significant uneaten food promptly to prevent it decomposing and affecting aquarium water quality.
Use alongside other suitable foods as part of a varied diet.
