Cochu's Blue Tetra is a delicate species of fish that's often overlooked in the shops.. They are a peaceful shoaling type of fish and should be maintained in a group of 10 or more individuals. The aquarium should be at least 3ft long to allow for open swimming space as these fish are very active and can become problematic when they're being confined. There should be some visual barriers like tall plants and wood. These fish are known for being a little nippy with other fish, but this is generally a result of the tetras being in small numbers or the aquarium being too small.

Boehlkea fredcochui are generally very peaceful and can be kept with most other species of community fish. Some species with long fins should be avoided though as the Cochu is known for being a little nippy. Ideal tank mates include other Tetras, Angelfish, Corydoras, Dwarf Cichlids and various Loaches and non aggressive Catfish.

Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods such as Daphnia, brine shrimp and bloodworm.
