Calico Peacock Cichlid are a man made strain of African Cichlids. They were bred from multiple species to create this colourful look and are favoured by many Malawi keepers.
Their aquarium should be large and dressed with plenty of rocks to act as a form of real estate for the fish to establish their territories on. These cichlids need hard water with a high pH and this is typically achieved by using ocean rock and/or coral sand. With that said, dark substrate brings out the colours better and makes the peacocks feel safer. Plants are not recommended for this species as they will most likely eat them. They are a territorially aggressive species. Most keepers will overstock them in very large numbers as this spreads out the aggression and reduces the chance of any single fish getting singled out. For this reason you will need excellent filtration and frequent water changes to help keep the parameters under control.
Like most Malawi, they don't mix well with other species of fish and should be kept exclusively with their own.
Food should be offered in the form of cichlid pellets as well as fresh and frozen foods such as mysis shrimp and brine shrimp.
Please note: These fish are still juveniles and have yet to colour up. The fish you are buying may not be identical to the ones in the photo.
