The Black Moor is a selectively bred black variety of the telescope fancy goldfish. These are one of the most popular varieties of Goldfish in the hobby and given proper care, they can live for up to 20 years! The aquarium should be spacious and at least 1.5m long for one fully grown adult Black Moor. Because these fish grow very fast, it is advised that they are housed in the largest possible aquarium from the outset, especially as they are messy fish and larger aquariums stay stable for longer. Efficient filtration is essential and it needs to be able to handle copious amounts of waste. Plants can be added to the aquarium, but will need to be replaced periodically as most goldfish enjoy eating and uprooting plants.

During the warmer months of the year, they can be kept outdoors in raised ponds, but appropriate protection must be added to prevent predators from being able to catch them. Also be mindful of the positioning of the pond and avoid direct sunlight so that your goldfish don't get too hot and the water doesn't turn green with algae. Moors are sociable fish and should be kept in groups with their own kind or any other fancy goldfish. Comets and other more robust cold water fish should be avoided as they are much faster and will outcompete the moors for food.

Feed high quality goldfish food and fresh or frozen insect larvae.
