Description
Aquadip Frozen Loose Shrimp 100g
Aquadip Frozen Loose Shrimp are a substantial natural food for larger tropical and marine fish, predatory species and aquatic turtles. Unlike small frozen foods such as brine shrimp or mysis, these are much larger individual river shrimp, making them particularly useful for fish that need a meatier meal.
Their natural shape, texture and strong food aroma can produce an enthusiastic feeding response, particularly from predatory species accustomed to taking larger crustaceans and other meaty foods.
Frozen Loose Shrimp for Large Fish and Turtles
Loose shrimp are particularly useful once fish become large enough that conventional frozen blister foods provide very small mouthfuls. Individual shrimp can be offered whole to suitably sized animals or chopped into smaller pieces when required.
This makes them a versatile freezer food for larger aquarium inhabitants without needing to feed an entire shrimp to every animal.
Which Fish Can Eat Frozen Loose Shrimp?
These shrimp are best suited to medium-large and large fish capable of handling substantial food items. They are particularly useful for:
- Oscars and other large cichlids
- Large puffers
- Predatory catfish
- Eels
- Triggerfish
- Lionfish and other predatory marine fish
- Large omnivorous and carnivorous aquarium fish
- Aquatic turtles
Always choose a portion appropriate to the animal’s mouth size. The shrimp can be chopped into manageable pieces for smaller specimens or juvenile predators.
Loose Shrimp vs Brine Shrimp and Mysis
Despite the similar names, loose shrimp and brine shrimp are very different foods in terms of size.
Brine shrimp are tiny crustaceans suitable for a huge variety of small and medium aquarium fish. Mysis provide a somewhat more substantial meal, while loose river shrimp are much larger and are intended primarily for sizeable fish and other animals capable of eating larger prey.
If your fish are reaching the point where brine shrimp, bloodworm or mysis disappear in a mouthful, loose shrimp provide a considerably more substantial alternative.
A Natural Food for Aquatic Turtles
Frozen shrimp can also be offered to many aquatic turtles as part of a suitably varied diet. Their size and natural form encourage normal feeding behaviour and provide a useful alternative to relying exclusively on prepared foods.
They should be used alongside other foods appropriate to the particular turtle species rather than as the sole diet.
Whole or Chopped – You Choose the Portion
One of the advantages of loose frozen shrimp is the ability to control portion size.
Larger fish can be offered an appropriately sized whole shrimp, while individual shrimp can be chopped into smaller pieces for juvenile fish or species unable to swallow one whole.
This makes the pack suitable for a wider range of predators than the size of the intact shrimp might initially suggest.
How to Feed Frozen Loose Shrimp
Remove only the quantity required from the freezer and thaw before feeding if preferred. Whole shrimp can be offered to appropriately sized fish and turtles, or chopped into smaller pieces before feeding.
Offer only as much as will be consumed promptly. Remove significant uneaten pieces before they begin to deteriorate and affect aquarium water quality.
Use alongside appropriate complete foods and other frozen foods to provide a varied diet.
