Description

Live Bloodworm 100ml Fish Food

A 100ml bag of large live bloodworm, an ideal food treat for your coldwater and tropical fish, fussy feeders and even amphibians like newts and frogs. This is the most popular live and frozen food used by most aquarists in the tropical and cold water fishkeeping hobby. The benefits of choosing live foods is that you will get the maximum amount of protein and nutrition out of each bag whilst the wriggling of the worms will trigger a very natural feeding response in all fish species.

These bloodworms are of the normal sized variety for more or less all tropical and cold water fish except the smallest and the largest.. If this food is not being used immediately, it should be kept in the fridge or outside in colder weather to ensure longer shelf life.

Feeding Guide: Feed your fish 1 to 2 times a day only as much as they will consume in a few minutes. Any uneaten food must be removed after the fish have finished feeding, before it has a chance to break down into harmful ammonia that could lead to potential water quality issues that would be detrimental to the wellbeing of your fish and other livestock.

If this live food is ‘on backorder’ this means we are out of stock now until our fresh delivery comes in on Friday – sorry for the delay but please order now and we will send your order out to you once they come in for delivery with you the following week.

Why we recommend live bloodworm

Live foods are an excellent tool for feeding certain fussy species as their natural instinct will tell them that this wriggling worm is food. Some animals, like newts will simply not feed on anything dried or frozen, opting only for live foods. This can also be said for a number of wild caught small predators that are quite rare and valuable.

Bloodworms are the best for this purpose as their bright red colouration will draw the attention of fish, enticing them to hunt the worms.

Unlike frozen foods, live bloodworm will continue to survive in an aquarium for a considerable length of time, allowing your fish to continue to hunt naturally. This will provide good enrichment and helps to replicate natural behaviours you would observe in the wild.

Is live food better than frozen?

Both have their advantages. Live food triggers a stronger feeding response due to the movement of the worms, whilst frozen food can be stored for longer and tends to be more hygienic. Some species will completely ignore frozen foods, but will readily accept live.

How should I store live bloodworms before feeding?

Live foods are best kept refrigerated. The lower temperatures will improve oxygen levels in the water and put the worms into a form of suspension, thus prolonging their shelf life.

Can I feed bloodworm every day?

Yes. Live bloodworm can be fed daily, but it should not be the only source of food for fish. A balanced diet is essential to keeping healthy, vibrant fish.

Can you feed these to amphibians?

Absolutely. Live bloodworms are readily accepted by most frogs, newts and other predators. In fact, they are more likely to accept it than frozen or dry foods.
