Description

ProRep Beech Chips Coarse Grade Substrate 10 Litre

ProRep Beech Chips Coarse Grade provide a clean, natural-looking substrate for suitable reptiles, birds and small mammals. Made from kiln-dried beech wood sourced from PEFC-certified forests, the chips offer a practical and economical choice for larger animals that require a dry enclosure.

The coarse 6–10mm grade creates a substantial covering across the enclosure floor and is particularly suited to larger species where a finer substrate may not be appropriate.

Supplied in a 10 litre bag.

Natural Beech Wood Substrate

ProRep Beech Chips are produced from kiln-dried beech wood, providing an attractive natural finish that works particularly well in woodland and other dry enclosure setups.

The coarse chips are relatively easy to maintain, with soiled areas simply removed and replaced as part of routine enclosure cleaning.

Which Animals Are Beech Chips Suitable For?

Beech chips can be used for a variety of larger snakes, lizards, birds and small mammals where a dry wood-chip substrate is appropriate.

They won’t be the right substrate for every species. Animals requiring consistently high humidity, species that need to burrow deeply, or those particularly prone to ingesting loose substrate may require a different substrate.

Always choose the substrate according to the natural behaviour, humidity requirements and feeding habits of the species being kept.

How to Use ProRep Beech Chips

Spread the substrate evenly across the enclosure floor to a depth of approximately 2.5–5cm (1–2 inches).

Spot-clean regularly, removing faeces, soiled substrate and wet areas as required.

ProRep recommends completely replacing the substrate approximately every two to three weeks, or sooner if it becomes heavily soiled or wet.

Using Beech Chips with a Heat Mat

Take particular care when using loose substrate in an enclosure heated by an under-tank heat mat.

A thick insulating layer of beech chips can interfere with heat dissipation and potentially contribute to excessive temperatures around the heat mat.

Always follow the heat mat manufacturer’s installation instructions and use reptile heating equipment with an appropriate thermostat.
