Frozen Gerbils provide an alternative whole-prey food for suitable snakes and other carnivorous reptiles. They are particularly useful for adding prey variety to a diet otherwise based primarily around mice or rats.

As whole prey, gerbils provide muscle, bone, organs and other tissues within a single food item.

Useful for Fussy Feeders

Gerbils have a noticeably different scent from conventional feeder mice and rats, which can make them particularly useful for reluctant or fussy feeders.

Some snakes that show little interest in their usual prey may respond more readily to a different prey scent. Gerbils can therefore be offered as an alternative food where appropriate for the species and size of animal being kept.

Feeding Frozen Gerbils

Always choose prey appropriate to the species and size of the animal being fed.

Frozen gerbils should be completely defrosted before feeding. Follow good hygiene practices when handling raw frozen prey, wash your hands and any surfaces or equipment that come into contact with it, and remove uneaten prey promptly.

Do not refreeze once fully defrosted.
