Takazumi Yugen is a specialist immune-support koi food designed to help strengthen your fish during periods of increased stress and vulnerability. Unlike everyday koi foods, Yugen contains a unique bacterial immunomodulator that has been developed to support the natural immune response of koi, helping them maintain condition and resilience throughout the year.

Many koi keepers use Yugen strategically during key periods such as spring start-up, autumn preparation and after stressful events such as transportation, pond work or health treatments. The aim is not simply to promote growth, but to help koi maintain a strong natural defence system when they need it most.

While it still provides complete nutrition, many koi keepers choose Takazumi Yugen food at specific times of year when they want to give their fish additional nutritional support.

When should I feed Takazumi Yugen Immune Boost?

Many koi keepers choose to feed Yugen during periods when fish may be under greater stress. This commonly includes spring start-up, autumn preparation, after transporting fish, following pond maintenance work or after introducing new fish to the pond. The manufacturer’s recommendation is to feed Yugen for short periods throughout the year rather than using it continuously as an everyday food.

Can Takazumi Yugen be fed all year round?

Yugen is a complete food and can be fed safely to koi. However, many pond keepers choose to use it as intended by the manufacturer: as a specialist food during key periods of the year when additional immune support may be beneficial. For routine daily feeding, most koi keepers will alternate between growth, maintenance and seasonal foods depending on water temperature and their goals for the fish. So whilst you can feed it daily, it would probably be quite wasteful to do so.

Can this be fed to all koi sizes?

Yes. Takazumi Yugen can be fed to koi of all sizes, provided the pellet size is appropriate for the fish being kept. Smaller koi may require smaller pellets or softened food depending on their age and size. If you feel that your fish are struggling to eat the food, soak it for 10 minutes before feeding and mash it a little so that the chunks are smaller and easier to swallow.

Should Yugen replace my normal koi feeding regime?

Not necessarily. Most koi keepers view Yugen as a specialist food that complements their normal feeding programme rather than replacing it entirely. It is commonly used during periods when fish may benefit from additional nutritional and immune support, while everyday feeding is often provided by growth, colour or maintenance diets depending on the season.
