The Starlight Pleco is a beautiful blackwater species from Rio Negro in Brazil. It has a pitch black body with numerous small white dots and white seams on the dorsal and caudal fins. The seams to fade with age. A medium or large tank is recommended for this pleco and the water should be clean and well oxygenated. The addition of Bog Wood, Rocks and caves will be welcome and light should be diffused by floating plants to make this fish feel right at home. Soft and acidic conditions would be a preference.
Tank mates can be chosen liberally as the pleco is peaceful and uninterested in its tank mates. It may however have territorial disputes with others of its own kind or similarly shaped fish. Their need for soft, acidic conditions should be taken into account though when choosing tank mates.
Food can be offered in the form of algae wafers, catfish sinking wafers and fresh or frozen insect larvae. These fish are omnivores, so it is important to offer them a balanced diet.
