The Rosy Barb is a species with an enormous range of habitat where it's more often found in cooler water streams. As this fish has a preference for lower temperatures, it is perfectly suited to larger temperate aquariums. It is a shoaling species that should be maintained in a group of 6 or more specimens. Like many barbs, Rosies will get quite nippy if their numbers are too low. They are an active species, so plenty of space should be provided for them to swim around it. The addition of plants in the aquarium is welcome, but soft, delicate plants should be avoided as the barbs enjoy nipping at leaves.

Ideal tank mates will include Rainbow Shiners, Danios, Peppered Cories and Hillstream loaches. Shy species may be spooked by the barbs and should be avoided, along with long finned species.

Food can be offered in the form of flakes and pellets as well as fresh or frozen fish foods.
