The Red Terror Cichlid is a large South American Cichlid with a reputation to match its name. They are a highly territorial species that is known for its aggression. Because of their size, they need to be in a very large well filtered aquarium. The flow should be moderate. The substrate should be fine sand to facilitate the Terror's natural digging behaviour and additional decoration such as rocks and wood should be fixed down firmly as these fish are more than capable of rearranging their environment. These fish can adapt to a very wide range of parameters as long as they're not in the extremes, but temperatures need to be at the higher end of the scale.
Tank mates should be chosen with care as the Terrors are likely to show some degree of aggression. Other equally aggressive species like Jack Dempseys, Green Terrors and similar can be considered, but caution should be exercised and a an alternate aquarium should be available if the fish don't get along.
Food can be offered in the form of Cichlid Pellets, Carnivore Pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods such as Mysis, Krill and Cockle.
Please note that the fish you're buying are juveniles and have yet to colour up. offering them a protein rich diet and a healthy, clean environment will encourage the fish to come into colour sooner.
