The Red Neon Rainbowfish is a member of the blue eyed rainbowfish family. It is a stunning little fish, ideally suited to smaller communities with similar temperaments. As a shoaling species, they should be kept in groups of 6 or more specimens. Smaller numbers tend to make the fish quite nervous and prone to hiding. Because these fish are very active, it's better to give them an oversized aquarium of 40L or more to give them the space to swim around.
The aquarium should be fully furnished with wood and rocks, as well as fully planted to provide plenty of cover and hiding spots for these little fish. The water should be soft and acidic with a gentle flow and subdued lighting to reflect their natural habitat. In the wild, this species is naturally found exclusively in a small part of the island of New Guinea, specifically in the Timika region of the Indonesian Papua province.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets, flakes and fresh or frozen fish foods such as mysis, brine shrimp and bloodworm.
Please note that the fish we are selling here are still juveniles and have yet to colour up. Feeding them a balanced diet and offering a healthy clean environment will help bring out their natural beauty faster!
