The Red Firefish is one of the most popular marine fish for keepers. This is partly due to their excellent temperament, striking colouration, manageable size and reef friendly diet. This fish can be somewhat shy at first, but if it is provided with a number of hiding spots among the rockwork in the aquarium, it will soon feel secure enough to spend more time out in the open. Known for their sweet personalities, Firefish are very peaceful and don’t tend to cause trouble in the aquarium, but they should not be kept with others of their own kind unless it’s a male and female pair. In larger aquariums it is possible to house several firefish as long as there’s plenty of rockwork for them to establish territories.

This fish is completely reef safe and an excellent choice for smaller Reef Set Ups. The current should be moderate and there should be plenty of hiding spots among the rockwork. Tank mates should be other similar sized peaceful species. Avoid any large belligerent fish as they may stress your goby out and force it to hide. A lid or jump guard is absolutely essential as the firefish, like all gobies, can and will jump out of the aquarium is it’s given a chance.

Feed your firefish smaller live or frozen foods such as brine shrimp, copepods and similar.
