The Rainbow Kribensis is a dwarf Cichlid native to Africa. It is a fairly peaceful fish that can be kept in most community set ups as it can tolerate a wide range of conditions. However, when the Kribs decide to breed, they will become very territorial and aggressive, so the aquarium must be large enough to allow space for everyone. They are cave spawners, so if other cave dwelling species are housed in the same aquarium, sufficient caves must be provided to ensure that there isn't any squabbling. Ideally the substrate should be dark and additional bog wood and plants should be provided as a form of enrichment and as hiding spots.
Ideal tank mates include various Tetras, Corydoras and other peaceful catfish, Barbs and larger Rasboras.
Pelvivachromis pulcher can sometimes be found in an albino variation and also in blue. They are close cousins of the sought after striped Kribensis that come in a vast range of colour morphs, depending on what region they originate from.
Food should be offered in the form of flakes, granules and micro pellets as well as fresh or frozen fish foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp and mysis.
