The Purple Harlequin Rasbora is a peaceful shoaling species from South East Asia. They are best maintained in an aquarium with soft, acidic water with other species of similar temperament. They should be kept in a shoal of 6 or more individuals, but a larger number will really bring out the best in these fish. The aquarium should be planted with plenty of hiding spots and a wide open swimming space in the centre. To achieve the soft acidic conditions that these fish thrive in, bog wood can be added. along with peat moss. Additional floating plants will diffuse the light a little to make the Harlequins feel more safe.
Tank mates can be anything that is smaller and peaceful that's able to tolerate the acidic conditions required by the Rasbora. We recommend South American fish such as Corydoras and dwarf cichlids like Apistogrammas. Long finned species should be avoided as their fins may be a little too tempting for the rasbora.
Food can be offered in the form of micro pellets as well as fresh or frozen fish foods such as bloodworm, daphnia and brine shrimp.
