Description

Orange Lipped Conch – Strombus luhanus

Orange Lipped Conch – Strombus luhanus, also commonly known as the Strawberry Conch or Tiger Conch, is an excellent sand sifting snail and a highly useful member of the clean up crew responsible for maintaining a healthy marine aquarium eco system. This reef safe marine snail spends much of its time moving across the sand bed, helping to consume detritus, uneaten food, diatoms and nuisance algae whilst also keeping the substrate gently turned over, cleaner and better oxygenated. As a low maintenance species, Strombus luhanus is well suited to beginners and experienced marine keepers alike, provided it is kept in a mature marine aquarium with plenty of open sandy areas to graze and forage naturally. These conchs are an excellent choice for reef set ups as they are not interested in harming corals, fish or other peaceful tank mates. Their constant activity on the substrate makes them especially popular for customers looking for a sand cleaning snail, algae eater or detritus eater for a reef tank. If natural food sources become limited, their diet can be supplemented with algae-based foods, marine pellets, sinking foods and other suitable marine preparations. Strombus luhanus requires very little direct maintenance and is a popular choice for keeping sand beds looking cleaner and healthier in marine and reef aquariums.

This is a marine species of snail and must be kept only in a marine (saltwater) setting. They will not survive a freshwater (tropical or coldwater) or land setting.
