The L144 Blue Eye Lemon Ancistrus is a fantastic alternative to Common Plecos. Growing only to about 12cm in size, they are suitable for most home aquariums, whilst the common pleco will outgrow all but the largest of aquariums.
They are a great algae eater, especially as juveniles. The aquariums should have good, strong flow and plenty of oxygenation for this fish. Offer plenty of hiding spaces and shady areas, especially if more than one specimen is to be kept in the same aquarium. The addition of bog wood is essential as the lining on the wood is a very large part of this fish's diet, which they will graze on a regular basis. They don't eat plants, but will attempt to eat algae off them.
Tank mates can include most peaceful community fish. We recommend keeping them with other South American species such as Dwarf Cichlids, Tetras, Corydoras and Angel fish. If more than one Bristlenose or any other similar species is to be kept in the same aquarium, there may be some territorial disputes, but they seldom lead to injury as long as the aquarium is big enough for one of them to retreat to safety.
Food can be offered in the form of algae wafers, sinking wafers and even some frozen fish foods such as bloodworm.
Please note that the image is for illustration purposes and the fish you will receive may not be identical. These fish are still juveniles and have yet to colour up. A healthy environment and good quality food will help bring them into full colour. If you have any questions about keeping these fish, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff.
