The Guineafowl or Spotted Dogface Puffer is a charming fish and an excellent choice for those who want a fish to be a real pet. They are very interactive and sociable with their owners and thoroughly enjoy the attention.

As with all Puffers, they are not reef safe and will try to eat all invertebrates in the aquarium as well as some corals. Their diet consists largely of meaty foods like prawns, mussels and cockles, which are best offered in their shells to help wear down the puffer's teeth. This puffer is definitely crazy about food and will happily let you touch him in exchange for a snack. Be mindful of where electrical equipment is located as these fish are well known for spitting water out of the tank when excited.

Due to its diet, the puffer needs excellent filtration and regular monitoring of water quality. These fish are very hardy and will live many years as long as good water quality is maintained and the appropriate food is given.

Due to their size and potential to be semi-aggressive, especially towards smaller or similarly shaped fish, Stellate Pufferfish should be housed with larger, more robust species. Good companions include larger angelfish, tangs, and lionfish, provided the tank is spacious enough to give each species its own territory.

The Starry Puffer needs a varied diet of meaty foods including; squid, krill, clams, and hard shelled shrimp to help wear down their ever growing teeth.

Please do proper research before committing to any fish. Shirley Aquatics is not responsible for mistakes made buy buyers who didn't research the fish.
