Gold Emperor Tetra are the white version of the standard Kerri Tetra and originate from Northern Brazil where they inhabit sluggish dark waters rich with tanins.

The aquarium should be spacious and these fish do need their water to be soft and acidic and that can be achieved by adding plenty of bog wood to the aquarium and peat moss as part of the filtration. Darker waters will reflect their natural habitat, but if an aquarium heavy in tanins doesn't appeal, then floating plants and shady areas in the aquarium will help make this fish feel more comfortable along with dark substrate and background. Adding tangles of driftwood and plants will help the fish feel relaxed in a stimulating environment as well as offering additional shade and hiding places.

They are a highly social shoaling species that should be maintained in a group of 10 or more specimens. If the numbers are too low, these tetra tend to turn their attention to other fish in the aquarium and often turn to fin nipping. Tank mates can include other small, peaceful species as long as they can tolerate the acidic conditions. We recommend housing them with other South American species, such as corydoras, dwarf cichlids, plecos and angelfish (if the aquarium is large enough).

Food should be offered in the form of micro pellets and fresh or frozen insect larvae.
