Ember Tetra are one of the smallest Tetra and a popular choice for nano aquariums. Growing to a maximum of 2cm, they're a colourful addition for smaller aquariums that may not be able to accommodate anything larger. They are a great beginner fish as a result and tend to be quite forgiving as long as the aquarium is maintained properly and water parameters don't go into the extremes.
This is a shoaling species that should be kept in groups of 6 or more individuals so that they feel more secure. The aquarium will benefit from the addition of live plants and tangles of wood to provide shade and hiding places for any fish that feels too exposed.
Whilst juvenile fish in shops tend to be quite washed out and bland, they soon transform into their glowing orange form once settled in a properly furnished aquarium. Tank mates can include pygmy cories, chilli and phoenix rasboras, galaxy rasboras, Ruby Tetra, smaller rainbowfish like the pseudomugil family, kuhli loaches and shrimp.
Food can be offered in the form of flakes and micro granules as well as nano pellets and fresh or frozen fish foods such as copepods, daphnia and mosquito larvae.
Please note that the image is for illustration purposes and the fish you will receive may not be identical. These fish are still juveniles and have yet to colour up. A healthy environment and good quality food will help bring them into full colour. If you have any questions about keeping these fish, please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff.
