Colombo Algisin is a powerful and reliable solution against blanket weed. After use blanket weed will start to disappear within a few days, within 14 days the pond is free of blanket weed.

Blanket weed can develop fast due to sunlight and overwhelm plants. Due to the enzymatic effect of Algisin the blanket weed will be refrained from essential nutrients. The remains of the algae can be removed easily with a fine coarse net.

Colombo Algisin is an effective treatment for blanket weed removal in ponds. Due to the powerful activity blanket weed will be removed quickly within a few days. Once Colombo Algisin has done its work much of the blanket weed will decompose or be collected in your filter. Any remains of blanket weed can be removed with a fine pond net.

Colombo Algisin, when dosed correctly, is safe for fish and plants making it the perfect solution to keep your pond free of blanket weed.

Colombo Algisin Dosage:

1000 ml will treat 10,000 litres (2200 gallons) of pond water.
2500 ml will treat 25,000 litres (5500 gallons) of pond water.
5000 ml will treat 50,000 litres (11000 gallons) of pond water.

Why does blanketweed keep coming back?

This is a question we get asked daily. Algae is a symptom, rather than a root problem. Algae, like all plants requires three key things to thrive: nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus), light and warmth. This is why you are most likely to face an outbreak during spring and summer. During these months, your fish are more active and feeding more, which leads to increased waste that becomes nutrients for algae. The days are longer and more likely to be sunny and the temperatures are higher, encouraging faster growth in plants. Whilst products like Algisin can help to remove blanket weed, the problem will never really be fully resolved unless the root cause is addressed and rectified.

When should I use Algisin?

Treatment should begin as soon as blanket weed appears. It’s easier to tackle the issue before it spreads throughout the pond and starts clogging up filters and waterfalls, restricting flow as it goes. Think of it as nipping it in the bud! Many pond keepers will start treatment in spring as part of the spring clean up routine.

Is Colombo Algisin safe for koi?

Yes. When used according to the manufacturer’s instructions, Colombo Algisin is safe for koi, pond fish and aquatic plants. As with any pond treatment, good aeration and accurate dosing are recommended

Did you know? Blanketweed can become a very real problem for Sturgeon. These fish can get caught up in longer strands of blanketweed and if they are unable to free themselves and keep moving, they will simply suffocate.
