Cleair Ceramic Filter Media

Cleair Ceramic Filter Media provides a highly porous surface for the beneficial bacteria responsible for biological filtration in ponds and aquariums.

Each substantial ceramic stick measures approximately 16 × 3 × 3cm and features a shaped, open structure designed to maximise the available surface area while allowing water to flow freely around the media.

Ideal for aquarium sumps, pond filters and shower filters, it provides a simple and long-lasting way to increase the biological capacity of your filtration system.

Cleair Ceramic Filter Media for Biological Filtration

The primary purpose of Cleair Ceramic Filter Media is to provide somewhere for beneficial nitrifying bacteria to colonise.

These bacteria form an essential part of a mature filtration system, helping process harmful waste produced by fish and other organic material.

The porous ceramic construction provides a huge number of microscopic surfaces where bacterial colonies can develop, while the larger external shape allows good water movement around each piece.

Highly Porous Ceramic Structure

Unlike small ceramic rings, these media sticks are substantial pieces measuring approximately 16cm long and 3cm wide.

Their open structure provides plenty of contact between the media and passing water without packing together too tightly.

This makes them particularly useful in larger filtration chambers where good water circulation is important.

Cleair Ceramic Filter Media for Aquarium Sumps

The Cleair Ceramic Filter Media is particularly well suited to aquarium sump filtration.

It can be placed within a suitable biological chamber after the main mechanical filtration stage. Removing larger particles before water reaches the ceramic media helps prevent debris from accumulating within its porous structure.

Once mature, the media provides a stable biological filtration area without requiring frequent replacement.

Ideal for Pond and Shower Filters

These ceramic sticks aren’t restricted to aquariums.

Their large size and open structure make them particularly useful in pond filtration and bacteria shower systems, where large volumes of oxygen-rich water can pass continuously over the media.

They can also be incorporated into suitable conventional pond filter chambers where additional biological filtration capacity is required.

How to Maintain Ceramic Filter Media

Biological filter media should generally be disturbed as little as possible.

If the ceramic becomes clogged with debris, gently rinse it using water removed from the aquarium or pond during maintenance. Avoid washing established biological media thoroughly under untreated tap water, as chlorine or chloramine may damage the bacterial colonies you’re trying to preserve.

The ceramic media does not need routine replacement simply because it has been in the filter for a particular length of time. Replace individual pieces only when they become badly damaged or begin to break down.

Cleair Ceramic Filter Media is available as:

• Single Stick – ideal for topping up an existing filter or ordering an exact quantity
• Box of 50 Sticks – ideal for larger sumps, pond filters and shower filtration
