Overview

The Cappuccino Snail is a large striking species of snail that can be kept in a variety of set ups. They are an omnivorous species that will eat almost anything. This makes them an ideal candidate for clean up grew, especially in aquariums where smaller catfish and invertebrates may be predated upon.

These snails will consume algae, decaying plant matter and uneaten food, leaving very little in its path. They are not known for being great algae grazers on vertical surfaces. This is because heir shells are quite heavy, making the snail reluctant to climb the glass. Plants are sometimes chewed, but this is not a preference for the this snail, so if it is well fed, it will not be interested in eating your plants.

It is recommended that they are kept in alkaline conditions to help maintain a healthy shell, but additional sources of calcium, such as cuttlefish bone can be offered instead. Though similar in appearance to the Rabbit Snail, these are not in fact related.

The Cappuccino Snail, a relative of the Black Devil Snail is able to exist in freshwater, brackish and even marine habitats, but gradual acclimatisation is important if changing the salinity of the environment. This snail will never become a pest in a tropical aquarium as it is unwilling to breed in freshwater. The addition of aquarium salt for treatment may however trigger breeding.
