Description

Calla palustris – Bog Alum

Heart shaped leaf plant with white flower with red berries, a member of the lily family. This is a lovely marginal plant that is ideal for ponds of all sizes.

Pond plants can offer great benefits to the ecology of your pond. Grown in shallow parts of the pond or in the bog filter, they will absorb nitrates and phosphates from the water column, which in turn reduces algae growth by removing the nutrients that algae requires to grow. They’re also a haven for insect life and provide a breeding ground for aquatic wildlife and fish alike. Valuable shady spots can be created by taller plants and some can even act as a natural barrier around the edges to deter predators and small children from the pond side.

Flower: White

Flowering Time: June to August

Planting Depth: 3-15cm

Height: up to 25cm
