The Blue Dolphin Cichlid is one of the African Cichlids we have in store. This striking species is not a particularly aggressive one and can be kept in large groups or with other malawis with a similar temperament. The aquarium should be spacious with plenty of rockwork to act as real estate and hiding places. Plants may be added to the aquarium to create more visual barriers and to provide shelter and shade. Tiger lotus in particular would mimic the natural habitat of these fish.
Like all Malawi Cichlids, this fish needs to have hard alkaline water and that can be achieved by using ocean rock and coral sand. Flow should be moderate and well oxygenated, whilst the filtration needs to be powerful and efficient.
In the wild, this fish is actually listed as critically endangered due to habitat loss and pollution. All specimens sold in shops are tank bred.
Food should be offered in the form Cichlid Sinking Pellets, Veggie Flakes and fresh or frozen fish foods such as mysis and brineshrimp.
