Blue Cherry Shrimp are a bright and charming addition to any aquarium containing small peaceful fish. They are excellent algae eaters and will also consume uneaten food and rotting plant matter. They are really fond of floating plants and often like to hang out on the underside of the leaves, cleaning them as they go.
They are great for smaller aquariums of nano fish, small communities and even shrimp only set ups. Larger tank mates should be avoided as shrimp are a natural food source for most fish and they will be viewed as an expensive snack.
These shrimp are best kept in colonies as they are a very social creature. They will also breed in fresh water, though the larvae are usually eaten by tank mates, keeping the population under control. Best to keep these shrimp in a mature aquarium as fluctuations in parameters can have adverse effects. Nitrates will not be tolerated. As with all shrimp, acclimatisation is very important. We recommend the drip method. If this isn't a possibility, then in addition to floating, the water in the shrimps' bag should slowly be mixed with aquarium water to bring the pH and KH levels to what the aquarium's parameters are.
