Algae Blenny, Salarias fasciatus, known as the lawnmower blenny due to its propensity to consume algae growth from rocks and glass. Usually olive to brown with dark bars and a large number of round or elongated white spots of different sizes. There are usually dark longitudinal lines on the front part of the body, and small bright blue spots with dark outlines along the rear part of the body. Size 10cm.

Algae Blennies are often chosen as part of a full clean up crew in Reef set ups due to their ability to consume an astonishing amount of algae whilst also stirring up detritus that may have settled in the aquarium, helping to clear it. In smaller aquariums this can be problematic as a single Blenny can deplete the algae in a relatively short amount of time and having little else to eat, so ensure that the algae sufficient to sustain the fish. Their diet can be supplemented with additional vegetable matter and nori.

They are also a fascinating little fish that are a joy to watch as they go about their business. They can often be seen perching on rocks to survey their territory and rummaging among the rocks for food. Because of their territorial nature it is not recommended that more than one Blenny of any sort is kept in a single aquarium.
