Shirley Aquatics is a name you can rely on, for over 70 years we have been helping people achieve their fish and reptile keeping goals as well as supporting them with all of their needs.
A bit of History for you:
Shirley Aquatics first opened it’s doors in 1939 on the Stratford road, Shirley West Midlands. We were pioneers in marine keeping, tropical plant growth and Koi keeping. In 1982 Ronald and John Cook took over who had already become market leaders in importing Japanese Koi on a grand scale. Over the course of 35 years the family built on early successes making Shirley Aquatics one of the larges and well known stores in Europe, concentrating on quality brands and customer service synonymous with a family run business.
In 2016 we decided that it was time for a change. The old building had done a fantastic job and kept us and many hundreds of thousands of customers happy over the years, but we needed a fresh start and a fresh challenge. We moved the complete store to its present location, just one junction down the M42 on an already much loved farm retail site, Becketts Farm. We took over what was little more than a barn and created a store fit to carry on the nearly 80 year old legacy.
Situated just one mile off Junction 3 of the M42 our new store is split over two levels. On the ground floor we the largest selection of dry goods we have ever had; a tropical and marine fish room all custom built for the job and housing many hundreds of marine fish, tropical fish, corals and inverts; we have our outdoor koi section with each pond having a viewing panel so people of all ages can enjoy the fish from all angles; the courtyard holds a fantastic selection of water features and pond plants (seasonal) as well as a wide selection of ponds, water containers and vats on sale.
Going up the stairs (or the lift if you prefer) you will see our aquarium showroom holding hundreds of tanks and displays from all the worlds leading manufacturers. Our pride and joy is the Cleair aquariums display with some amazing tanks to choose from all at unbeatable prices.
Whether its fish keeping or reptiles that take your fancy, the hobby is constantly evolving, we aim to keep ahead of these developments in an effort to show you something you don’t see anywhere else. We have a lot of plans for the future and a lot of space to play with. Our display Gardens will soon take shape and we aim to show you just what can be achieved when you put a little water into your Garden!
Our new location has better links to the motorway and Birmingham as well as the added bonus of Becketts farm, as well as many other businesses on site. Becketts farm boasts the best breakfast in the West Midlands as well as an amazing farm shop and Deli counter… In fact we can’t think of a single reason for you not to pay us a visit!
