Description

Grape Algae – Caulerpa lentillifera

Caulerpa lentillifera, commonly known as Grape Algae, Sea Grapes or Green Caviar, is an attractive marine macroalgae prized for its unique appearance and practical benefits within the aquarium. Its distinctive grape-like fronds grow along creeping runners, forming dense clusters of bright green spheres that add a natural and vibrant look to marine systems. They look especially nice in shallow lagoon set ups!

Native to tropical coastal waters, this fast-growing species is particularly popular in refugiums and marine aquariums where it can help improve water quality through the uptake of excess nutrients. By absorbing nitrates and phosphates from the water column, Caulerpa lentillifera can assist in reducing the conditions that contribute to nuisance algae growth, making it a valuable addition to a well-maintained marine aquarium.

The dense structure created by its fronds also provides shelter and grazing areas for copepods, amphipods, and other beneficial microfauna. This makes Sea Grapes especially useful in refugium setups designed to support a healthy and diverse ecosystem.

Under suitable conditions, Caulerpa lentillifera grows rapidly and can be easily trimmed to maintain its desired size. Regular pruning encourages healthy growth and prevents the algae from becoming overly dominant within the system. Its combination of ornamental appeal, ease of care, and nutrient-export capabilities has made it a favourite among marine aquarists of all experience levels.

Supplied as a generous, healthy live portion, carefully packed and ready for introduction into your marine aquarium or refugium. This algae is kept in its own tank for hygiene purposes, away from our corals, inverts and fish.
