The Picasso Triggerfish is a large aggressive species that’s best suited to fish only set ups. This fish, which will grow to around 25cm in length is quite a personality in the home aquarium and they are reputed to be very interactive with their owners, sometimes even making grunting noises when they’re asking for food. The aquarium should be very large for this territorial fish and should have plenty of rockwork as well as open swimming space as the Picasso Trigger is a very active fish. The rock work should be stable and fixed down if necessary as these triggers are known for redecorating their own aquarium. They are also known for chewing cables and tubing, so this should be taken into consideration when choosing the layout of the aquarium. The Picasso is not suitable for reef set ups as they will eat absolutely any invertebrates.
Tank mates should be similar sized fish with an equally belligerent disposition. This fish should never be kept with others of its kind or any other triggerfish.
Food can be offered in any meaty form such as mussels, krill, shrimp, cockle, mysis and any others. Though Picasso triggers are well known for being hand tame, it is best not to feed by hand as the fish may accidentally nip fingers.
