Aquadip Large Frozen Bloodworm is a larger-grade frozen fish food particularly suited to medium and larger tropical and coldwater fish. Bloodworm are the larvae of non-biting midges and are readily accepted by many aquarium fish thanks to their natural shape, colour and soft texture.

The larger size makes this variety a useful alternative to standard bloodworm for fish capable of taking a more substantial mouthful. Supplied frozen in a convenient 100g blister pack, it is easy to portion and keep ready in the freezer.

Large Frozen Bloodworm for Bigger Fish

Bloodworm have long been one of the most popular frozen aquarium foods. They provide a protein-rich addition to the diet and can be particularly useful for adding variety alongside good-quality pellets, flakes and other frozen foods.

This larger grade is ideal when ordinary bloodworm feels a little small for the fish being fed.

Which Fish Are Large Bloodworm Suitable For?

Large bloodworm are particularly useful for medium and larger freshwater fish including cichlids, larger barbs, gouramis, catfish, goldfish and other species capable of comfortably swallowing the larger larvae.

For small fish, juveniles and species with particularly small mouths, standard or small bloodworm will generally be a more appropriate choice.

Are Bloodworm Actually Worms?

Despite their name, bloodworm aren’t true worms. They are the aquatic larvae of non-biting midges. Their characteristic red colour comes from haemoglobin, which helps them survive in environments where oxygen levels can be low.

Their natural appearance and movement when thawed make them highly recognisable as food to many fish.

Feeding Large Frozen Bloodworm

Remove the required portion from the blister pack and thaw before feeding if preferred. Offer only as much as your fish will consume within a few minutes and remove significant amounts of uneaten food.

Bloodworm are best used as part of a varied diet rather than as the sole food. Alternating between bloodworm, brine shrimp, mysis and suitable complete dry foods provides greater dietary variety.
